Product Overview/Applications

With its unique ability to adapt to four different research applications, the MF1000 offers an economical and flexible equipment platform. The base chamber itself can be fitted with one of four specially configured kits, and each kit is specifically designed for a particular application including:

  • Plant growth
  • Arabidopsis
  • Tissue culture
  • Incubation

By varying the configuration of the airflow, light, and shelving, each kit defines one of the four applications. The MA1000 is also available with several options such as phenolic coated coils and network communication. The phenolic coated coils enable the MF1000 to be used for entomology research while the communications option facilitates connection to a facility’s local area network.

Lighting

The lighting systems for the MF1000 incorporate high
efficiency T5H0 fluorescent lamps. Lighting system
configuration is determined by the application kit where
each kit stipulates a particular light intensity and lamp
canopy configuration. Lamp and ballast combinations have
been designed to ensure a balanced light spectrum while
light intensity levels are adjusted (AR & PG Kits only)
through a stepped selection process.

Airflow

Precisely designed and manufactured air plenums are used for each of the four application kits. The Plant Growth kit utilizes a solid rear plenum which discharges air from the floor for a uniform upward airflow. The Arabidopsis and Incubation kits both use a perforated rear plenum which discharges the air horizontally for maximum condition uniformity in view of the use of flats or similar research vessels. The Tissue Culture configuration incorporates individual air-shelves that discharge air vertically to reduce or eliminate condensation within media dishes.

Refrigeration

The standard air-cooled refrigeration system is optimized to ensure adequate capacity for delivery of uniform conditions regardless of the particular kit installed. Kits do not alter the configuration of the refrigeration system and as such, kits can be exchanged with minimal effort.

Experiment Protection

User programmable alarms for key parameters such as temperature and humidity monitor the actual conditions within the chamber and notify the User with both audible and visual alarms. Additional factory pre-set alarms monitor system integrity while an alarm history recorder tabulates alarm events for historical reference and service.

The standard lighting system on the plant growth chamber MS10H provides a broad based light spectrum for plant growth by employing a combination of fluorescent and incandescent lamps. The lamps are housed within a barriered canopy which reduces heat transfer to the growth area in plant growth chamber. Excess heat in the canopy is ventilated to ambient. Standard light intensity is 500 micromoles/m2/s which is measured by a quantum light meter and transmitted to the controller for user readout. Standard lighting control provides four levels per lamp type in plant growth chamber.

The standard lighting configuration for the Plant Growth Chamber MPGC20 combines fluorescent and incandescent lamps thus providing a broad based light spectrum. The light fixture is counter-balanced for ease of height adjustment between the lamp canopy and the plants. Standard light intensity is 700 micromoles/m2/s which is measured by a quantum light meter and transmitted to the controller for user readout inside Plant Growth Chamber.

Airflow for the Plant Growth Chamber MPGC20 is distributed uniformly upward using Meditech’s innovative Uni-floor air distribution plenum. The airflow is sufficient to promote uniformity as well as proper gas exchange at the plant’s leaf surface of Plant Growth Chamber. The Plant Growth Chamber includes fresh air intake and exhaust ports which are adjustable to allow up to 20 ft3/min (0.57m3/min) of air exchange.

The Plant Growth Chamber MTBDR16 utilizes an innovative lamp bank design that maintains a constant temperature within the barriered lamp canopy. This results in a constant light intensity output that is unaffected by the temperature within the chamber. Standard lighting for the Plant Growth Chamber MTBDR16 combines T8 fluorescent and halogen incandescent with 3 light levels per lamp type, resulting in a broad based spectrum ideally suited for plant growth. Lamp replacement is easily achieved from outside the growth area by raising the hinged, counter-balanced canopy. Standard lighting intensity is 800 micromoles/m2/s which is measured by a quantum light meter and then transmitted to the controller’s status screen for User readout. Lighting – Plant Growth Chamber

The standard light intensity for the Plant Growth Chamber MTR30 is 600 micromoles/m2/s using both T8 fluorescent and halogen incandescent lamps which results in a broad based lighting spectrum. The fluorescent lamps come standard in a 6-foot length for each shelf in Plant Growth Chamber. Lighting is switched in two levels for each lamp type and is monitored by a quantum light meter and displayed in micromoles/m²/s on the controllers status screen for user readout. Lamp heat is controlled and managed by the refrigeration system in Plant Growth Chamber.

Airflow

Airflow in Plant Growth Chamber is distributed to the two shelves through two Meditech Uni-floor systems – one at the floor level and another just below the second shelf. The air in Plant Growth Chamber is discharged upward resulting in uniform air distribution throughout the growth area.
